Why is heating important?
The World Health Organisation recommends a minimum indoor temperature of 18°C for healthy people, and 20°C for ‘at risk’ groups like the elderly, young children and those with respiratory illnesses.
How efficient is a heat pump?
Heat pumps are one of the most efficient and cost-effective heating options available in New Zealand. In fact heat pumps are so efficient that typically, 1kW of electrical energy you put in, your heat pump will produce around 4kW of heat energy out.

Heat pumps use electricity which in New Zealand is 80% renewable, making them kinder on the environment. Other traditional heating forms such as gas or wood burners actually deplete the air quality and cause greater carbon emissions.

Choosing the right Heat Pump
Aside from design, the key to selecting the right heat pump to create a comfortable environment is to choose the correct unit size. An oversized unit could cost more in energy usage, while an undersized heat pump may not provide adequate heating or cooling the room requires.
A number of other factors need to be considered such as insulation and building orientation.
